Last night and today's appointment

I went to the AMOM meeting last night. In our breakout group (expectant moms are grouped together), we talked about various baby/pregnancy items. I was the most pregnant of the group at 31 weeks. Well, there is another expectant that is around 34 weeks, but she's been in the hospital on bed rest because she was dilating and having contractions. She was actually released last night at 5-6cm dilated and 75% effaced, so she'll probably have her babies soon. At 34 weeks is when they will not actively stop labor. So I think I'm the most pregnant of the group that is not on bed rest or facing immediate delivery. There are 4 or 5 ladies that are right around my due date. One other lady was 30 weeks and there were some 29 and 27 weekers.

I got home around 10pm and both Sean and Macey were sleeping. Macey's getting her second top molar, so she's been having some "rough" days. Last night she didn't have a great night. She woke up around 10:30. Sean went in and rocked her and laid her back down. She went out for a short time, but was up again at 11. I went in this time and rocked her and then laid her down (she wasn't asleep). She finally went down around 11:20 or so, but only to be back up at 3am. I gave her Motrin and laid her in bed with us. She never went back to sleep. Finally around 5am I woke Sean up and asked him to take over so I could close my eyes for 30 minutes or so. Sean went to her room and tried to get her to go back down. He said she went to sleep for maybe 30 minutes. This is the first time her teeth have ever interrupted her sleep. She already has one molar on the top and she did have diarrhea and a little fussiness with that one, but that was the extent of her teething issues, this second one is really giving her some grief.

We saw Laura this morning. I found out last night that Laura is pregnant (a lot of the ladies in the group go to Laura and one of them mentioned it). So of course I said something to Laura this morning and she was beaming. This will be her first and they are having a boy. Everything was good with me and the babies. My uterus hadn't grown since last measured, so still at 37 weeks. She mentioned that I've reached a good point in the pregnancy. At 32 weeks is when 99% of babies are born without brain bleeds and at 31 weeks 97% are born without them. Hopefully I'll go much longer than 32 weeks or even 34 weeks. We're not ready for them to make their entrance. I barely just preregistered at the hospital, I just bought one pack of diapers for them last weekend (wow, that will last a day or two), I have not even packed a bag for the hospital and we are not prepared at the house for having 2 newborns (wow, really, we're going to have 2 newborns, that doesn't ever sink in) and frankly, I'm being selfish and just want to have some time to rest before they get here.

Next week we have our monthly growth ultrasound.

Random ramblings

Macey and I went shopping this morning. Man was it hot! She was super and loved every minute (except a few objections to being put back in the car seat when we were going somewhere else). I have to say that some people are just rude, bitter, bah hum bug or something. We all know that Macey is the social butterfly and says hi and waves at everyone she sees. She puts on the biggest smile while she's greeting them. There are some people that just look at her and then look away, not even acknowledging her greeting. Today there was an older man (imagine grandpa) that was beyond rude (well, in my mind he was, but Macey is unaware). He was watching us as we walked up and Macey smiled, waved, and said hi and he just looked away with a old man disgruntled face. Ok, so I get that not everyone is a baby person, but at least fake it, she's only 14 months old! I know she's unaware, but I still feel like somehow that will diminish the little light she has burning, the one that makes her love to interact with people. I always tell her how nice that is to say hi to people, hoping to encourage her outgoing side (stranger discussion is a little ways away at this point). I know she'll eventually learn that not everyone is so nice and that she can't talk to everyone, but while she's learning and developing I want to keep her excited about everything. Such is the life of being a parent.

Shopping was a big excursion for me. I had to rest quite a bit, but mainly did it when we got back into the truck. I know I've said this a million times, but this pregnancy is completely different. I didn't really feel pregnant with Macey, well, obviously I "felt" pregnant, but not like this. I never got to the point with Macey where I couldn't bend over or where getting up and down was a task or to the point where I feel nauseated/sick at lot (and I'm talking about now, not in the 1st trimester). Nor did I ever get to the point where walking around was a task and if I did it a lot I would be tired and my back would be killing me. I'm definitely there plus some with this pregnancy.

Sean is doing great. Macey loves her daddy...and that's an understatement. She's his little shadow. In fact, the reason she got the scrape on her nose is because she was following him to the back yard and somehow fell and scraped her nose on the back patio. She can hear him grab the keys and she'll beat him to the door. They have so much fun together. They've already started wrestling. He'll be sitting on the floor and she'll run to him and "tackle" him and he'll lay out on the floor and she'll give him a big bear hug. It's like little girls are born knowing exactly how to melt Daddy's heart.

Next week should be pretty busy. It's my last full week of work (well Friday is a holiday) before my leave starts, so that means finishing up a lot of my projects. I've got an AMOMs (Austin Mother of Multiples) meeting Monday evening. I've got my weekly appointment as well as having to go get my blood drawn for my thyroid.

Oh what a night...(warning more stomach virus discussion)

So around midnight last night I woke up not feeling so well. I had stomach cramps which turned into diarrhea (TMI, but oh well). Then for several hours I dealt with pretty constant contractions. I thought about going to the hospital since I didn't think it was possible for me to have another stomach virus and I wasn't feeling as blah as I did with the previous one. Around 3:30 or 4 this morning the contractions slowed down and I went to sleep. I did wake up a few more times after I went back to sleep and would have one or two contractions. I did have nausea as well, but no vomiting this time. I got up a little before 7am and slowly got ready for my doctor's appointment. I told him about my night. He checked my cervix and still closed...whew. I feel like a ticking time bomb this go around...since about 24 weeks I've had my cervix check weekly, and each time I cross my fingers that nothing has changed. Seems like I am the lucky one to have another stomach virus. I did go to work and worked all day.

Both of the babies were head up today at the doctor's appointment. Everything was great. He is running lab work for FN (I can't remember the word right now, fibro-something, but that's the abbreviation). If that chemical/hormone/or whatever is found then it is an indication that labor is likely to start in a few weeks or sooner.

Wow, what a difference 1 week makes...

We went to our appointment this morning. Same old, same old. Heartbeats (both in the 140s), blood pressure, weight, etc., all check out fine. Laura did mention that it seems like I'm about 25% effaced, but still closed. My uterus measured at 37 cm which is 2 cm growth in one week...wow, these babies are growing! Sean and I were laying in bed watching the babies move around last night and I told him I don't think my stomach ever looked like this with Macey and he quickly agreed. Camryn (the girl) was kicking and rolling around. Miles (the boy) joined in, but only momentarily. I think he's learned to let his sister have her way, smart boy! I don't think I've mentioned their names before in my blog, but the girl will be Camryn Michelle and the boy will be Cranston Miles. Laura was glad to hear that I'll be following her instructions and stopping work by September 3. I made sure and mention to Laura that Sean thinks that means I'll be on bed rest so she could explain to him. He is very protective and I could see myself going crazy with him trying to make me sit in bed all day. Laura said that only if I start to dilate would that mean bed rest, but said that I should be resting at least 4 hours during the day while I'm not working. Whew!

I fell on the stairs this weekend while holding Macey. I landed on my left hip/side, which was the side I was holding Macey. She didn't get hurt by the fall (motherly protection at its greatest), but man, I'm paying the price. My left shoulder and right hip are super sore. I feel like an old woman.

We go tomorrow to my OB.

Macey's fall...

Here's a few pictures taken the day of her fall...it didn't look so "bad" on day 1...

Here's a picture from yesterday....brown spot and all...

Yesterday at the accident scene, several of the police thought that she was involved in the accident. The family that was involved was Hispanic, so Macey has the skin tone, plus she has a lovely reddish/brown spot on her nose that made it look like she could've just been injured.

This week so far

Monday wasn't that eventful, just getting back into our schedules since Macey and I were in Houston the latter half of last week. She was great getting back into her normal bedtime and routine. As a parent, you always dread the adjustment because you expect the worst. Macey has been such a trooper and is in bed by 7:30 (so back to normal), which is about 2 hours earlier than when she was going to bed when we were visiting my family. She had too much going on to get to bed on time when she was there.

Yesterday evening was a little overwhelming. We were almost home, less than a mile from the house, and we came upon an accident that had just happened. There were people already stopped and helping. Sean pulled over and immediately jumped out of the car. It was a pretty bad accident. On one side of the street the ditch is really deep and steep. The car was in the ditch and appeared to have flipped into it. It was sitting right side up in the ditch though. There were 2 little girls that they had already pulled out of the car as we were stopping. They both looked like they were elementary school age or close to it. Both were bleeding from the face area. One of them looked like she had broken her nose and the other one was worse off. She had a severe laceration on her forehead and her eyes were already swollen. There was glass everywhere. I grabbed the wipes we had in Macey's bag and gave them to the women that were holding the girls. The one with the broken nose wiped her face and her bleeding had stopped. Another lady had to hold the other girl and hold the wipes to the laceration to put pressure on it. That little girl was terrified of having to see a doctor. She would calm down and then start yelling, "No doctors, no doctors." I held back the tears and stayed calm so that the little girls wouldn't get even more upset. The mom and dad (or what we assumed to be the mom and dad) were still in the car and much worse than either of the girls. Sean was really trying to open the doors of the car and just had super human strength. We weren't going to move either of the adults since they could have had back injuries that would've been made worse by moving. Sean just wanted to make the access to them easier. The driver was the mom. She was conscious and moving when we got there, but you could tell she was in a state of shock. Sean said that her legs were trapped in the car. The passenger was unconscious when we got there, but regained consciousness sometime before the paramedics arrived. He was probably the most injured in the accident. It didn't take long before the police, fire department, and ambulance arrived. We left as they were working to get the parents out of the car. Sean stopped by another neighborhood that was closer to the accident on his way out and everyone got out of the car. We hope and pray that everyone is recovering and doing well.

Our appointment this morning went well. My uterus is measuring at 35 cm (up from 34 last week), blood pressure is fine, heartbeats were in 140s (little boy) and 150s (little girl), and all else checked out perfect. Sean "told" on me for not following the instructions. Laura chimed in and said "Really, we ask everyone to only be working 4 hours a day at this point." Yeah, that would go over really well at work. Laura went over the ultrasound results from last week. Both babies are in the lower 40th percentile range and within 2% points of each other. So perfect. Laura said that the babies would really start to gain weight now, about 6 ounces a week.

I'm still struggling with some type of sinus issue. I think allergies have turned into something else now. Macey avoided catching the ugly stomach virus, but manage to fall and scrape her forehead and nose on Sunday. Her nose got it the worst. She looks like one of those dogs with a spot on its nose. I've taken a few pictures of her with her "spot" and I'll try to post them later.

Our time in Cove/Houston

We survived our time in Cove. Macey enjoyed playing with her cousin, Madison, and seeing Nana, Pawpaw, Uncle Micah, Memaw, and Sissy. She entertained them as much as she entertains us. I suffered from some kind of allergy/sinus attack while I was there and it is still lingering. Friday when I got back from training/working Madison was sick with a stomach virus. I tried hard to stay away from her as well as keep Macey away from her. My last stomach virus was when I was pregnant with Macey and that was no fun at all. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to avoid catching it and it hit me Saturday morning around 3am. Our flight left at 2pm on Saturday and that morning I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make it. I mustered up the strength and we made it back to Austin. I was extremely exhausted/weak once I made it to Austin. I hadn't eaten anything all day long, plus was suffering from the lovely effects of a stomach virus, and making it through 2 airports did me in. I came home and stayed in bed the rest of the day. I did eat some soup yesterday evening. Luckily, I didn't pay the stomach bug price for eating. This bug must have been a less "violent" bug than the last one I had because I was in bed for 2 or 3 days with that one. I was back to normal today, well, I'm still struggling with allergies. Macey seems to have avoided catching the bug...still hoping she doesn't show any signs in the next few days.

This week we just have our weekly appointment with Laura.

More twin info

I went to my OB yesterday. Still looking good. The girl was laying breech instead of transverse, but the boy was still head down. She's a mover. My doctor commented on how she was like her sister, Macey. I asked my doctor what he was expecting about work. He quickly smirked and asked, "what did Laura say about that?" I responded with her timeline of wanting me to stop working by September 3. He smiled and shook his head while saying, "I agree with her." I thought his response was funny because of the interaction I had with Laura on my second appointment with her back in June. She asked me if I had any questions and I just told her that I didn't think I did, and said that I was still trying to absorb the timeline she had given me. She responded with, "Yeah, that's what the OBs do, they send you over here so I can be the bad guy." So my doctor's immediate response of "what did Laura say" only proved Laura's comment.

Macey and I flew to Houston yesterday evening. She was great. The flight wasn't packed, in fact, we had our own row and we weren't the only ones with our own row. She loved looking out of the window and playing with the window cover. She also was playing a game with the lady sitting in the row behind her. Macey would stick her fingers between the seat, and the lady would stick her's between them. They went back and forth for a while (well, as long as a 14 month old can). I keep expecting her to scream the entire flight and was worried about her ears, but she did none of that.

I'm in Houston for training and my mom is watching Macey while I am at work. Sean may join us tomorrow afternoon sometime. We miss him.

28 Weeks and update

We had a long appointment today. We were 5 minutes late, so of course we paid for our mistake by sitting extra long. Our appointment was at 8am and we didn't leave there until almost 10am. We saw Laura and everything is still good (heartbeats, blood pressure, cervix, etc.). The ultrasound was interesting. I was getting quite nauseous laying on the table as they pushed around with the ultrasound machine. Both babies are measuring perfectly. The boy weighs about 2lb 5oz and the girl is about 2lb 6oz. Sean wanted to know why the girl was taking all the food away from the boy. The fluid around them is perfect. The girl has her head over on the right side and is laying transverse (across my stomach) while the boy is head down (presenting) with his feet up by his sister's head. The doctor and nurse were going back and forth on how to label the babies since the little girl is more on the right side than the little boy. They label them Baby A and Baby B and want to be consistent at each visit so the growth is tracking correctly, but the doctor finally said that since they aren't the same sex as long as they keep that straight in the charts it should be good. They gave us a few pictures of them, but they are not good pictures. One of the pictures is the boy looking straight ahead and all you can really see is one eye socket (the straight ahead pictures in an ultrasound are pretty skeletal looking) and the other one is of the girl, but I don't even know how to describe this picture. Her spine is at the top and she's looking down, but you can't see her face/profile in the picture, so all you really see is her spine. They give us pictures each time we go for an ultrasound (which is monthly), but none of them have been "good" pictures in quite a while.

Macey seems to be much better today. She had one dose of the medicine last night and then slept with a humidifier going. Her voice is much better today and her cough doesn't sound so seal-like.

My little barking seal...

Macey's got croup. She doesn't really act like she's sick, but her little voice is very hoarse, her breathing is labored, and when she coughs you want throw a fish to her since she sounds so much like a seal. She's been sleeping well (watch tonight be a night were she doesn't sleep well), which has been surprising since with croup you expect their coughing "fits" to worsen at night. She's also cutting several teeth at the same time, so it was a "fun" weekend. We've been giving her Oragel and Motrin to try to help her out. Overall, she really was pretty good this weekend, she just had spurts of time where nothing was what she wanted, except to be held. She weighed 21 lbs 6 oz at the doctor today and that's was fully clothed and diapered, so she probably weighs around 20 lbs. The doctor gave her a prescription for some steroids to help reduce the vocal cord inflammation.

I've got my ultrasound and appointment with Laura tomorrow, then my OB appointment is on Wednesday. I'm suppose to fly out on Wednesday evening to Houston for training on Thursday and Friday. Maybe I should ask if I can travel at this point just to make sure, especially since I'm about the size of a full-term pregnancy.
