On Saturday we went to the Lifetime Fitness outdoor swimming pool. That was the first time Macey got to go swimming. She's a little fish. This pool has a beach entry and a few small water fountains at the beach entry. Sean sat with Macey by the fountains and she loved it. She doesn't get bothered by water in her face at bath time, so I figured she would love the swimming pool. She was crawling around the pool and splashing and splashing.
At one point I went to the bathroom. When I came back Sean was over by the lifeguard holding Macey. He talks to anyone, so I just figured he was over there conversing. When he saw me, he immediately started walking towards me and said, "check Macey out and make sure she's okay." I looked at her, she was just hanging out, and said, "yeah, she's fine." Sean then tells me what happened. He was laying down in the beach entry and Macey was walking around him. She got to the spot behind his head and slipped. She took in some water, but she didn't go completely under as her hair was not completely wet. Sean was so frightened by the event that he took her to the lifeguard and was telling the lifeguard, "do something". The lifeguard looked at Macey and said, "she's fine, she's breathing." He's such a sweet dad. He doesn't want anything to happen to his baby girl. I had to laugh though. I would've never imagined Sean to be such an overprotective dad. Even though some of his reactions and antics with Macey do not make sense to me and are sometimes things that I would never think of, I love him even more for them. The love and tenderness he shows for Macey makes me love him even more, if that's even possible.
My next doctor's appointment is May 8, and my next appointment with the perinatal group is May 12.

Busy body..
Macey's our little source of entertainment and even the smallest things she does are quite entertaining.
She's just started playing the in and out game. She's currently using the rings that go on the stacking pole (classic kid toy, rings get smaller and smaller) and a toy train that has a large opening in the back (holds the animals that came with the train). She'll put all the rings into the train, and then take them out...over and over. It's a game all kids pick up, yet when your own does it you get hours of enjoyment from just watching them do it over and over again. You marvel in every development especially when it's a development that they seem to "create" on their own.
She LOVES to jump. She's had a love of bouncing since she was born and it carried over into her jumping and jumping. She jumps just because, to dance to music, when she's excited, etc. No matter how many times she does it, it is still hilarious. She's got some strong legs, that's for sure.
Diaper changes have become interesting. If you don't change her on the changing table, good luck. You'll be chasing a diaperless kid. She knows that she can escape easily if you change her on the floor or couch. She goes into the alligator roll to escape and she's off. Needless to say 99% of her diaper changes occur on her changing table.
Her vocabulary continues to grow everyday. She's added "wow" and "whoa" to what she says often. Yesterday I was working with her to say Pawpaw and Nana and sure enough she repeated both to me.
No new developments from the twin front. Still expecting twins. Exhaustion, headaches, nausea, irritability, all still continue.

Lazy weekend
We didn't do much this weekend. I was able to take a nap when Macey did on Saturday, which was great. I've had horrible headaches and this weekend wasn't exempt from those. I did a few household chores, and Sean chipped in to help me. Macey and I went grocery shopping on Saturday, but we made it a quick trip as Macey was getting tired and I wasn't feeling great. So I really didn't accomplish much with that shopping trip. Macey slept in until 8am on one day this weekend, which was nice, since she's usually up by 6.
We are amazed at how much Macey has grown. She really mimics anything we say these days. This weekend she started saying "thank you" (in her own baby way). Sean heard her say "thank you" as well, so it isn't just me trying to put words in her mouth. She also picked up "blowing kisses" and loves to blow many kisses. She loves reading her books. She's got one bear book that she loves to turn the pages and loves to crawl on the pictures (it's a big book) and feel the soft bear bellies. It amazes me that she'll crawl over to me after reading her bear book and I'll say to her "did you read your bear book", and she'll look back to the bear book. Their word comprehension is just amazing. One of her favorite things to do is push the office chair around and around. She's made quite the game out of the office chair. And if you are sitting in the chair when she wants to push it, she'll let you know that you need to move. Sometimes she'll put a toy on the seat of the chair and push that around in the chair, who knows what she thinks she's doing. Helping us "fold" the laundry is another favorite thing of hers. She's quite hilarious when she does it. If we put a pile of clothes on the couch that need to be folded, she'll pull each item onto the floor, until everything is off the couch. Then she'll go through each item on the floor and "throw" it behind her. The face she gets when she does this is priceless, it's serious business to her.
She goes back and forth on her eating habits. One week she'll do pretty good about eating, and then she'll go to her eating strike. On the eating strike weeks, she'll still snack on cheerios and crackers, etc., but she won't eat her cereal in the morning, or any other item we try to feed her. She'd rather feed herself.
I've definitely started "showing" or at least in my eyes I have. I know I was no where near this big at this point with Macey. I'm pretty sure I could still fit into my favorite jeans with Macey, there's no way with these twins. I think I wore my favorite jeans well into the second trimester with Macey. I could probably get them on, but would have to utilize some rubber bands around the button hole to keep them on. I keep reminding myself that at 7 weeks the doctor said that my uterus was measuring around 10 weeks, so if that same 3 weeks ahead still holds true, then I'd be measuring around 16 weeks by now. That makes me feel a little better about my growing belly.

Broke the news
We finally told everyone that we are going to have twins. I'm twelve weeks today. It was fun for the excitement to be stirred up again and see the reaction of people hearing about the twins. We went last Thursday to the doctor and heard the heartbeats for the first time. Both of them were very strong (in the 160s). We went on Monday to the perinatal specialist group for the first screen, an ultrasound screening. Sean got to see them for the first time and I'd call this my first time seeing them as well since the first ultrasound they didn't really look very recognizable as human babies yet. Baby A had his/her hand in/by her mouth the whole time. Baby B was moving her/his legs around. We go to the perinatal specialist group every 4 weeks, up until a certain point in the pregnancy. That's in addition to going to my OB every 4 weeks.
Macey went with us to both appointments. She was quiet and still last week, but this week she decided that this sitting and waiting business wasn't for her. We did have to wait a little longer this week, so that gave her enough time for the "newness" of the environment to wear off and for her to get restless. She went out in the car after both appointments as they were both early morning appointments.
Macey's been pulling up and cruising around the furniture for a while now. We believe she's going to be one of those fearless kids as she will try to do anything. She puts her face in the water when taking a bath, wants to climb on anything, etc. She waves bye-bye and says bye-bye. Her frequent word choice is "ooh". She says "ooh" when she sees another child, expressing her excitement, when she sees the dogs, or when you ask her a question. She likes to sing "da da da da" and momma is used sparingly (how it usually is). She's got quite the imagination as she will play with her toys and seem to hold a conversation with them. She definitely talks jibberish. She still growls and will try to mimic any other kind of noise you make. She's an overall busy body. I claim she's got her daddy's personality as she is loud for no reason and just very boisterous. We enjoy her, can you tell?

Thoughts, worries, etc.
I'll be 10 weeks pregnant tomorrow. The excitement has settled down in regards to carrying twins and the worries have settled in. I don't remember having as many worries when I was pregnant with Macey, or I should say the worries have changed.
Even though you are completely overwhelmed with the thought of having twins, your thoughts immediately go to the survival of both babies (even before they are considered a fetus). You want both babies, even if it seems impossible to handle 2 babies at the same time (along with a 15 or 16 month old). You worry about one of them not making it, one of them "vanishing", one of them having problems. You worry about having premature babies, or experiencing complications that weren't experienced with the previous pregnancy. You worry about having to go on bed rest.
I do remember early on while being pregnant with Macey that there were days where you really didn't feel pregnant. Those days didn't phase me as much as they do with this pregnancy. I've had the appetite of a horse, but then there have been weeks where I didn't feel as hungry as I had been feeling. I immediately worried that I had unknowingly lost one of the babies.
I am cautiously optimistic, and not wanting to day dream about raising these twins and Macey having playmates, hoping not to set myself up for disappointment.
I go back to the doctor on April 10, and that day can't come soon enough. I also go to the perinatal specialist group on April 14. Hopefully I'll get ultrasounds at both appointments to settle my fears.
